Rooted Lamp

This Birch sapling was perched atop an old stump. When a sapling roots itself onto a fallen tree or stump, it is called the "nurse log" for the sapling, as it provides the nourishment for the sapling to start its' life.
I dried the sapling for two years, then carefully scribed the roots so they would sit flat onto the table. The birch leaves in the shade give a quiet scattered leaf ambience to the room.
